Cornwall's Hidden Treasures (Yesterday)

Well, I couldn't post yesterday, but I still must tell everyone about our splendid exploration of Cornwall with Michele and Bob.

After having such a great time with our family, we took Michele and Bob up on their offer to stay with them for another night and spent yesterday in Cornwall. After checking out of our lovely Penzance Guest House, we head to St. Ives for the morning. There we found another beautiful village/city, where the houses are built into the hill sides. We walked down the hill through the maze of streets and shops. It's a lovely place to explore and, we even made it to the ocean front with sandy beaches and a rock statue artist. The afternoon was drawing nearer, so we got back in the car and headed to Michele and Bob's in St. Erth.

Once at Michele and Bob's, we settled in, dropping off our stuff and then off we went on a locals tour of Cornwall. Michele and Bob took us to Greevor, a tin mine museum where we walked around seeing the old mine shafts, engine houses and much more. We even came across some military prospects who were running around the Cornwall coast, doing some sort of brutal training challenge. At one point they were carrying each other up gravel hills, to which we four agreed you couldn't pay us to do that. Instead, we enjoyed some tea and water in the cafe.

Next on our adventure, we drove around the back roads of Cornwall to Porthleven. This is a small fishing village with more beautiful sites and some interesting shops. We saw The Ship Inn, which we've been told, can be spotted in many British shows, and even in some movies. We enjoyed a nice walk along the wharf and out to where the waves break. This spot was particularly interesting because this is where, during storms, huge waves blast the shoreline. You could see where they've had to rebuild the walls and the incredible power of the water.

We enjoyed dinner at a little restaurant called Kota Kai, and even had a few laughs as people outside took their turn trying out a giant beach chair, where they all inevitably got stuck. Well, you'd think we would have learned, but no. After dinner we wanted our turn! Each of us gave it a go. Michele and I agreed that we wouldn't mind spending a bit of time in one of those.

As the night drew to a close we made one final stop at a beach in one of Cornwall's surfing hubs. We just missed the sunset, but still enjoyed the lovely sky. When we finally returned home for the evening, we made our plans for today, per Louise's recommendation, we were off to Bath!
