Today began in Liverpool with a quick breakfast and then a tour of the International Slavery Museum. This was a really interesting and emotional exhibit about slavery and human rights violations throughout British and world history. There was also a great exhibit on the Art of Solidarity. This exhibit had posters supporting various social and political movements from different parts of the world.
Dad and I then got in the car and headed to Manchester, well technically Salford, but in the greater Manchester area. The woman at the hotel asked me, "what's your husbands name?" To which I quickly responded he's my dad, not my husband. We had a chuckle over that. Surprisingly it's the first time it's happened in two weeks.
Our hotel is located on the quays, just a quarter of a mile from Media City UK, home of the BBC and ITV Manchester studios. This is where they record some of their game shows, television programs and news broadcasts. We even walked past the Coronation Street studio, which is one of the long running U.K. serial dramas (aka soap operas). The buildings all around here are really neat and rather new, some crazy architectural feats for sure. We are also just across the river from the Manchester United Football Stadium.
Later in the afternoon we went to the Imperial War Museum. This was another great Museum. Here they explore the history of British war involvement, highlighting the roles of women and children. They have a great collection of artifacts, photos and video footage from all over history and what really set the mood was the set up of the room. Throughout the exhibit they project images on the walls while a narrator tells you all about it. It's kind of eerie because the whole room is dark except for the projections and some red lights, definitely catches your attention.
Wr had a great final day together and tomorrow I prepare to drop dad at the airport and start the next half of my journey on my own. I will certainly miss my travel buddy, but I am looking forward to what's to come!
